Chapter 14 - The hearing of Bazanov Matvy

On the 12th of Sun’s Dawn, E2 588 it was time for the hearing of Former Steward of House Orinth, Bazanov Matvy. There were two juries already present and one more spot to take. However, two citizens were willing to take it, discussing who should take it but after some time it was decided that they both are given the opportunity to have a spot in the jury.

The jury of that day were as followed:

1. Brancois of the Militant Office

2. Tancred of the Militant Office

3. Evelyn of the Lore Office

4. Nirilin, civilian of Dragonrock (Who did not wish to sit)

The accused was brought forth and the hearing began. After Countess Maryelle and Arcanist Vortigern explained all the terrible crimes that the accused committed, most of the jury were in shock. Bazanov himself seemed unaware of what was happening or that he was at the trial, continuously speaking about trade deals. However Nirilin decided that the accused should be allowed to speak for himself about the crimes, unaware that he was not able to do so.

The jury decided to ask questions to which they were met with absurd answers about getting down to business with merchants. Eventually Nirilin decided to leave the jury position and head outside the room while carefully observing Bazanov, not wishing to be close to him and telling others to stay away.

After enough questioning and information from the witnesses, the jury was ready to cast their vote. As expected, the three remaining members of the jury found Bazanov Matvy guilty of the crimes. The Countess sentenced him to death by decapitation but it seemed as if he was not touched by it, even saying how it is marvelous that it was agreed upon. He was escorted back to his cell where he will be waiting for his sentence.
