With the war council ended abruptly, house and county split in two, between the regency and those loyal to his former captain, Maryelle Orinth. Branded as defectors and leaving Dragonrock for reasons unknown to the public, the war against the cultists continues, a losing battle…
Aelius Octavus one of the two survivors of the Viscera mine incident, was given the task of revisiting the Dwemer ruin found in the mine, in search for anything useful to finally turn the tides of war. In dire need of volunteers and while all resources under the regent strained due to the mutiny of his captain and her followers, he was forced to appeal to Dragonshield, the base of the captain’s operations. Met with volunteers from all walks of life, some among those closest to the Orinth siblings.
The travel lasting several days, involved the expedition members travelling through the northeastern passage of Fergana to Skyrim. Traversing the reachman lands, in secrecy from the bottom of the cliffs and valleys, given the perspective of their struggles and fights, by passing mass graves and bloodied rivers, finally arrived in Craglorn. The landlocked by mountains land, much like Fergana, isolated from the happenings of the war, was prisoner of their own struggles. Through fatigue the party was forced to stand down in a nearby inn and finally get a long breath, before diving into the unknown of ruins.
The whole endeavor a big gamble made by Aelius himself. Last time he was in the ruin, his party noticed the abysmal cavern ranging across the land, presumed to extend all the way up to Craglorn or even Skyrim. His investigation now leading him to a lost ruin, one not famous among scholars due to the circumstances of the war and its shallow accessibility, barely a chamber wide, but still visited by the occasional adventurer, as the locals informed him. He had hopes of that ruin to connect to the one in Fergana.
After a sandstorm washed over the land the road laid bare. Thus their dive finally started… The Dwemer carcass of oil and metal in the sands, proven to be exactly as described by the locals, vandalized by the ignorant treasure hunters, its corridors led them to the chamber. In its middle a huge door, beyond which none had passed… Among the ruins and inscriptions something useful was found by sir Eligius, the knight Commander of Morgan Orinth and volunteer to this ruin. With the combined help of the cautious Bosmer locksmith, Valleg and the cunning mage, Vortigern, where others failed the group succeeded, finding how to finally open the door and traverse further inside…
For the first time since the disappearance of the dwarves, now the halls are finally opened further in and illuminated with the beam of light from a varla stone, leading them further inside.. In the labyrinthian underground passages of the ruin, they stumbled upon yet another puzzling machine. With their combined wit managing to redirect the light beam with a peculiar shield, into it, finally opened the way further ahead…
The ground riddled with thick dust, made it difficult for anyone to realise one of the countermeasures the old inhabitants had placed in… A wrong step and with a click, Aelius had triggered a trap! A huge metal sphere like a boulder started rolling down the steps of the path ahead! Everyone rushing to the crevices so that they avoid the demise it brought… Eligius, the kind one to his subordinates, sacrificed the last bit of cover, to the Khajiit Snow Drendar, now only him and Vortigern left to face the sphere… No matter their endeavors, however, the result was the wounding of the mage’s legs and Eligius narrow escape with the help of the surprisingly nimble locksmith.Their wounds treated by their Argonian Archer, Herds-Many-Netch, they opted to continue their mission.
Hours upon hours come and go… Almost feeling lost in the narrows passages of the Dwemer intertwined, they come face to face with another big chamber, in darkness they attempt to explore it, only to find an experimental 5 meter brass and magic ridden spider automaton. The devastating machine, proved to be an immense threat, wounding everyone and bringing Aelius and Vortigern on the verge of death. However with Herds’ and Snow’s true aim, disabling its legs one by one, Eligius managed to get on its back, smashing its core crystal to smithereens and in the ensuing explosion, destroying the beast... Their last trial leaving them weak and battered, however the surprises not yet ending.
Beyond the chamber… Aelius’ gamble would seem to pay off. They had reached the caverns, the same hollow caverns he saw last time while in Viscera. Hiking along the unique landscape, itself proving surprisingly empty, their finally were below the balcony that housed the Artifact of the Blind God, the source of discord in Fergana… Scaling its walls however someone else appeared to be, before them… A shadowy Dunmer introduced as Tedril, in dark leathers, seemingly one of Valleg’s old acquittances. The mischievous figure, speaking of his master, having the same goal as Aelius party, the end of the war and ruin of the cultists, offered for an alliance, that came as uneasy as Tedril’s manners and movements themselves… However they all had reached their destination… The last bastion of knowledge regarding the artifact, a chamber housing a brass covered book, with bizarre patterns, its contents hidden, in need of deciphering however hopeful that it speaks of a way to destroy the artifact of the Blind God…
With the prize in their hands, the unnerving Dunmer, led the party to his camp, where he prepared them for what was to follow…
